Hi everyone
I wanted to address this personally before the year’s end, and before I post my final finished artwork for 2021 in the following days. I’ll be taking a hiatus from working on Spunkbug art for a few months in early 2022 next year. The specific time away is yet to be determined. This year’s artlog, with primary focus on polished pieces rather than sketch art, was personally the hardest to get through and the hardest to feel satisfaction progressing and finishing.
This year’s experience began with a personal situation that happened for two months. I’m not going to go into detail on what it was. The time I normally would have to progress on art fluctuated wildly. A lot of weekends and nights I had planned to focus on art were cancelled or had to be put off, forcing art I had insisted I’d finish soon at a glacial pace. Money was wasted over workaround plans that failed in action. A screaming match or two happened during this time. Record heat waves hit just as things were calming down.
Dual-Promare was planned to be the first to be finished, for March. In the end it was finished later into the Summer because of the aforementioned setbacks. I was really excited for it but the project didn’t track well. Dual-Promare’s traction on DA for instance was abysmal. After it was posted, I had two demanding pieces also in the works (mentioned below.) I began to doubt myself if the time I was trying to find to complete them would be even worth it. The drive to finish those two was gone. It was not an enjoyable process working towards completing them. It’s been a frustrating year personally and I didn’t enjoy it as much as I wished. I’m burnt out on developing new art for characters too.
This month, December 2021, you’ll see the finished results of both the Kim Pine piece and the Helluva Boss comic. After these release, I’ll be on hiatus.
I had ideas for 2022. A satirical narrative on supremacy plus the wealth for health in multiple pieces. A novella was briefly considered. Even thought of opening commissions for the first time. But I can’t do it. I’m spunked out. I want to start next year off later and with a fresh slate. When I return to working on art soon I hope to start artwork I would once again feel motivated and enjoy finishing. I will still keep in touch with mutuals on Discord and update the Twitter account. I’ve been considering doing a “yard sale” of characters and designs I’ve no longer been using, so keep an eye for any news on that soon if it’ll happen. Some long-used characters like Sublime the Slime might be there. December 2021 will also be the very last time I’ll be updating the old Tumblr page. There will be no more updates on there after the year’s end.

2022 is shaping up to be very rocky too. The Omicron variant is going around, keep your masks on and keep washing those hands. On Twitter there will be a mid-term retweet thread for my American followers at some point this year. We’re in this together. Weirdos like me, you, all of us.
